We are very excited to introduce Sensory Swimming at Maccabi Aquatics — a specialised swimming program designed to provide a calm, supportive and positive swimming experience for children who may benefit from a more individualised approach.

Our 1:1 Sensory Swimming lessons are designed around each swimmer’s individual needs, abilities and goals. Whether your child is learning the fundamentals of water safety, developing their swimming skills, building confidence in the water or becoming more comfortable in an aquatic environment, our teachers work at their pace and adapt the lesson to suit them.

A Calm and Personalised Experience

Sensory Swimming takes place in a quieter pool environment, with each swimmer working individually with their own dedicated teacher.

Lessons are 30 minutes, with a maximum of 8 swimmers in the pool at any one time. Each swimmer has their own designated lane space, allowing our teachers to provide a highly focused and individualised lesson without the distractions and busyness that can sometimes make traditional swimming lessons challenging.

We understand that every swimmer is different. Our teachers take the time to get to know each child, understand what helps them feel comfortable and confident, and adapt activities, communication and teaching strategies to suit the individual.

Supporting Every Swimmer

Our Sensory Swimming environment has been thoughtfully designed to support swimmers who may benefit from additional structure, predictability and sensory considerations.

We have developed visual schedules to help swimmers understand what will happen during their lesson and what comes next. We also have a variety of sensory-friendly equipment and teaching resources, allowing lessons to be adapted to each swimmer’s individual preferences and needs.

Our goal is to create an environment where swimmers feel safe, supported and successful, while developing skills that can help them both in and around the water.

Experienced and Specialised Teachers

Our Sensory Swimming teachers hold an AUSTSWIM and/or Swim Australia licence and have undertaken additional specialised training with Autism Swim and Puggles Swim (Deaf Australia).

This additional training supports our teachers in understanding the different ways swimmers may communicate, learn and respond to their aquatic environment. It allows us to provide a more inclusive and individualised swimming experience for every swimmer.

When Are Lessons Available?

Sensory Swimming operates during the school term:

Saturday: 11:30am – 1:00pm
Sunday: 12:30pm – 4:30pm

Each lesson is 30 minutes and delivered on a 1:1 basis with a dedicated teacher.

More Than Just Swimming

We believe swimming is an important life skill for every child.

For some swimmers, simply entering the pool can be a significant achievement. For others, it might be putting their face in the water, floating independently, learning to move safely through the pool or developing stronger swimming skills.

Whatever the goal, we recognise and celebrate progress at every step.

Our Sensory Swimming program is about creating an environment where every swimmer can learn, grow and enjoy the water in a way that works for them.

At Maccabi Aquatics, every swimmer has their own pace, their own goals and their own pathway to becoming more confident and capable in the water.
